Meeting to Finalize Preparations for Algeria’s U15 School Football Team at CAF Championship
On Friday, officials from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), the National Technical Directorate (DTN), and the Algerian School Sports Federation (FASS) convened at the FAF headquarters in Algiers to finalize preparations for Algeria’s participation in the CAF U15 African School Football Championship. The tournament is scheduled to take place from April 21 to 26 in Accra, Ghana, as noted in a statement from the federation.
The meeting was chaired by FAF Secretary General Nadir Bouzenad, and key participants included National Technical Director Ali Moucer, Competition Director Billel Guendour, and several DTN officials, such as Ismail Hani and Lazhar Atsamena. Azzedine Bensaidi, Secretary General of the FASS, along with DTN members Rachid Hafsaoui, his deputy Madjid Abbas, and FAF physician Abdeldjalil Boutout, were also in attendance.
The discussions focused on finalizing the details related to the national team’s preparation for the upcoming competition. Participants outlined the distribution of responsibilities among the various stakeholders involved. Additionally, they took this opportunity to assess the progress of the Algeria Schools Cup, further underlining the collaborative effort in promoting football at the school level.
This marks a significant milestone for Algerian football, as it is the first time the national U15 team has qualified for the final phase of the African school championship, which is currently in its third edition. Launched in April 2022 in Maputo, Mozambique, through the support of CAF President Patrice Motsepe, this tournament has gained immense popularity, attracting participation from over 1.965 million young people, both boys and girls, from 46 countries. This program has emerged as one of the most notable initiatives for youth sports mobilization across the African continent.
The financial incentives of the tournament are considerable, with the winning team set to receive $300,000, the runner-up $200,000, and the third-place team $150,000. These prizes not only enhance the excitement of the competition but also reflect the growing investment in youth sports in Africa.
The convergence of these organizations highlights the commitment to fostering young talent in football, creating pathways for future generations. The successful execution of the U15 African School Football Championship will further strengthen Algeria’s football infrastructure and its presence in African sports.
In summary, the meeting at the FAF headquarters marked a pivotal moment for Algerian sports, especially in youth football, as the U15 team prepares for a historic appearance at the CAF championship in Ghana. The wide-ranging discussions and strategic planning underscore the importance of collaboration among various sports bodies and educational institutions in nurturing young athletes. This initiative not only offers a platform for competition but plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall sporting culture in Algeria and across the continent.
