The 14th edition of the "Taj El Coran" contest concluded on Friday at the International Conference Center (CIC) in Algiers, recognizing six winners from a total of 24 finalists. This competition celebrates the recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran, showcasing talents from across Algeria.
In the female category, the top prize went to Nawal Benyaza from Chlef province. Basmala Benabiza from Mascara secured the second position, while Asmaa Baltas from Jijel finished third. The male category saw Ilyas Rahal from Tiaret emerge as the winner, followed closely by his fellow contestant from Tiaret, Abderrahmane Taouche in second place. Sofiane Tamdjert from Ghardaïa took the third spot.
During the awards ceremony, Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, highlighted the ministry’s ongoing support for the recitation of the Quran, crediting the efforts of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He announced several initiatives, including the newly published "Mus’haf d’Algérie" and electronic versions designed for visually impaired users. Additionally, he mentioned the Amazigh Mus’haf and projects aimed at incorporating Quranic commentary in the languages of Sahelian countries. A joint Quran publication between the national radio and the ministry is also set to launch next week.
The ceremony saw the presence of numerous dignitaries, including Brahim Boughali, the President of the National People’s Assembly, and various ministers. A notable aspect of this year’s competition was the recognition of Quran reciters with special needs, emphasizing inclusivity in the religious community.
