Zerrouki insiste, à Jijel, sur le renforcement de la couverture des plages par les réseaux de téléphonie mobile et l’internet avant la saison estivale

Summary of Minister Sid Ali Zerrouki’s Visit to Jijel

During his recent visit to Jijel, Algeria, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, stressed the vital need to enhance mobile phone and 4G internet coverage across the nation’s coastal tourist sites in preparation for the summer season of 2025. This initiative aims to ensure the safety of vacationers, facilitate rapid responses from security and emergency services, and improve digital service quality for both citizens and tourists.

Zerrouki urged mobile network operators to boost coverage quality and network performance, especially in coastal areas that experience high tourist traffic during the summer. He emphasized the importance of coordinating with local authorities to streamline the installation of necessary antennas and technical equipment.

The minister also highlighted his department’s commitment to fostering economic growth, promoting financial inclusion, and accelerating digital transformation across various provinces. Jijel, he noted, stands out as a significant region due to its tourist appeal, industrial zones, and one of the country’s most prominent commercial ports.

During his visit, Zerrouki inaugurated two new post offices in the localities of Boucherka and Chehna, named after deceased Mujahids (freedom fighters) Diabi Abdelkrim Benali and Bouanika Tahar, respectively. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving services for citizens in every locality.

He inspected the construction progress of a new post office in Zouitna, projected to cost over 9 million dinars and serve more than 1,300 residents. Additionally, he announced plans for a national recruitment competition for Algeria Poste, indicating that selected candidates would undergo a one-week training program.

In El Aouana, Zerrouki inaugurated three mobile stations for Djezzy and Ooredoo operators and approved a project to connect 27 Ooredoo stations to a fiber optic network in Afouzar. He also led the implementation of a project aimed at replacing traditional copper networks with fiber optics across nearly 1,980 ports in Jijel.

Moreover, Zerrouki highlighted the introduction of national roaming for emergency call numbers along the East-West highway, allowing emergency calls through any available mobile network. This service will eventually be expanded to all roadways nationwide.

Overall, Zerrouki’s visit reflects the government’s broader strategy to enhance telecommunications infrastructure, support economic development, and ensure the welfare and safety of citizens across Algeria.
