Summary of Minister Sid Ali Zerrouki’s Address on Algeria Post Enhancements

On a recent Thursday in Algiers, Algeria’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, addressed the National People’s Assembly during an oral question session. Joined by Minister of Relations with Parliament, Kaouter Krikou, Zerrouki affirmed his commitment to improving the performance of Algérie Poste and the working conditions of its employees.

Zerrouki highlighted that the ministry is dedicated to addressing workers’ concerns while adhering to existing laws and regulations. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the operational efficiency of postal services and the sustainability of Algérie Poste as a vital sector.

The minister outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing both employee conditions and corporate performance. Key measures include:

  • Improving Employee Compensation: This includes adjustments to certain bonuses to recognize employee efforts adequately.
  • Revitalizing Labor Representation: A new process to renew union sections aims to establish a dedicated union for postal workers.
  • Office Reclassification: Over 760 post offices are being reclassified to ease operational burdens.
  • Human Resource Expansion: A recruitment drive is underway to create 498 new jobs at post offices, aimed at strengthening service delivery.
  • Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs): The introduction of over 600 ATMs in the first quarter of the current year aims to reduce pressure on services, with an additional 300 ATMs expected soon.

In preparation for the upcoming Aïd El-Adha, Zerrouki assured that measures are in place to ensure a seamless service experience at postal offices.

Cybersecurity Initiatives

Additionally, Zerrouki addressed the issue of cybersecurity and concerns over cyber-attacks. He pointed out that the ministry is focused on enhancing electronic communications infrastructure and has implemented a series of preventive measures to safeguard Internet users. A key component of these initiatives is ongoing public awareness efforts, including a campaign launched on May 10 that aims to educate citizens on electronic fraud and reporting mechanisms. This campaign will run until the end of the month, highlighting the importance of vigilance against online fraud.

Zerrouki’s address signifies a proactive approach from the Algerian government to bolster the postal service and ensure the safety of its operations in this digital age. By enhancing employee conditions, addressing operational challenges, and focusing on cybersecurity, the ministry is positioning Algérie Poste not only for immediate improvement but for sustainable growth in the future.
