Strengthening Ties: Nigerian Delegation Praises Algeria’s Urban Development
On Saturday, a delegation from the Nigerian Institute for Political and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) visited Algiers, where they commended Algeria’s notable advancements in housing, particularly in the new city of Sidi Abdellah. The visit aimed to explore Algeria’s expertise in urban development, the blue economy, employment, and environmental management, underlining the significance of bilateral cooperation.
A Focused Exploration
Led by Umar Musa Emmanuel, the delegation toured various economic, tourist, and environmental sites across the capital. Their objective was to understand Algeria’s approach to sustainable urban development and effective planning. The head of the delegation expressed admiration for Algeria’s clear vision and strategic planning, emphasizing how these factors contribute to the country’s sustainable development initiatives.
During their time at the administrative headquarters of Sidi Abdellah, the Nigerian representatives received a comprehensive presentation about the new city. Topics included quality of life improvements, housing plans, economic productivity, and existing energy and environmental facilities. The information gathered is set to be compiled into a detailed report with recommendations for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Innovative Water Management
The delegation also visited the Sidi Abdellah water treatment plant, where officials from the Algerian Water and Sanitation Company (SEAAL) showcased their effective water management strategies. They highlighted initiatives in irrigation and industrial water use, expressing SEAAL’s eagerness to explore potential partnerships with Nigeria.
Additionally, members attended presentations from the SAIDAL group regarding the pharmaceutical industry and export plans, as well as a startup focused on smart sanitation systems. They were impressed with Algeria’s environmental protection standards and safety measures in place.
Insights into Employment and Social Welfare
At the Sidi Fredj desalination plant, the delegation explored facilities and services, followed by discussions with the National Employment Agency (ANEM) on professional integration and the National Social Insurance Fund (CNAS) on Algeria’s healthcare card system. The Nigerian delegation expressed a keen interest in Algeria’s employment framework, unemployment benefits, and the role of the blue economy in the national GDP.
Concluding the Visit
The trip culminated at the Hamici Technical Landfill Center and continued in Tipasa, where they visited institutions such as the National Maritime School and the Scientific and Technical Research Center for Physical-Chemical Analyses (CRAPC), along with an aquaculture and shellfish farm. This comprehensive itinerary underlines the commitment to fostering international relationships through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
This visit forms part of a broader program initiated earlier in the week, spanning various provinces in Algeria and concluding on Sunday in Boumerdès. The exchange of expertise demonstrated the potential for future collaborations, emphasizing the importance of leveraging shared experiences for mutual development.
