A recent visit by a Mauritanian delegation to Algeria underscores a significant move towards enhancing bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector. According to a statement from Algeria’s Ministry of Health, the delegation expressed its intent to leverage Algeria’s experience to develop Mauritania’s healthcare system.
Meeting and Collaboration
On Thursday, a key evaluation meeting took place between Algerian officials and their Mauritanian counterparts, which also included representatives from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Ministry of Finance. The main goal of this gathering was to review the Mauritanian delegation’s field visit to Algeria. This visit is part of a larger partnership program aimed at supporting and exchanging expertise in emergency medical services, with dedicated support from the IDB.
Delegation’s Site Visits
The Mauritanian delegation’s tour began in the Algerian capital, where they explored the polyclinic and the emergency medical aid service (SAMU) at Dr. Ahmed Aroua’s facility in Sidi Yahia. This was followed by a visit to the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC).
The delegation then traveled to Tipasa to further examine another SAMU facility, concluding their tour in Oran at the University Hospital Center (CHU) and another SAMU site. Throughout these visits, the Mauritanian representatives focused on understanding Algeria’s healthcare structures, especially in emergency medical care.

During the discussions, the Mauritanian delegation conveyed their country’s eagerness to benefit from Algerian expertise and enhance cooperation between the two nations. They also expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended to them by Algeria.
