une délégation algérienne prend part au séminaire du Comité de décolonisation à Dili

DILI (Timor-Leste) – A delegation from Algeria is participating in the annual seminar of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) in Dili, Timor-Leste, from Wednesday to Friday. This seminar focuses on assessing the status of the 17 territories listed on the UN’s decolonization agenda, including Western Sahara.

This year’s session is particularly symbolic as it is hosted in a country that underwent its own decolonization, gaining independence in 2002. The opening ceremony featured the presence of Timor-Leste’s President, José Manuel Ramos-Horta, a prominent figure in the country’s fight for self-determination and freedom. He emphasized the historical struggle of Timor-Leste and urged C-24 members to intensify efforts to complete the decolonization process of the listed territories.

Throughout the seminar, the Algerian delegation will collaborate with representatives from various African, Latin American, and Asian countries known for their steadfast support of just causes and the struggle for liberation, particularly for the people of Western Sahara.

It’s important to note that the C-24 committee is an essential UN body dedicated to implementing the historic Resolution 1514, adopted in 1960, which calls for the granting of independence to colonized countries and peoples. The committee’s discussions will focus on Western Sahara starting on the seminar’s second day.
