The coalition, named "Partis politiques pour la Constitution," expressed its outrage, stating they were not surprised by this development. In a press release, they declared their intention to initiate urgent legal proceedings against the decree. They condemned the intimidation and violence faced by their members, which appear to be either orchestrated or tolerated by government authorities. The statement highlighted a disturbing trend by the transitional government to constrict civic and political spaces in Mali.
In late April, a national consultation held by the military government saw a wide boycott from opposition parties and recommended the outright elimination of political parties. Consequently, the authorities announced the repeal of laws governing political party operations, leading to fears of dissolution among the political entities that persisted.
In response to these oppressive conditions, around a hundred parties have united to demand an end to the politico-military transition by December 31, 2025, and to push for a swift return to constitutional governance. This new coalition demonstrated its growing strength by rallying several hundred participants in a recent protest in Bamako. They are calling for another demonstration this Friday.
