63rd Anniversary of Independence in Algeria

On Saturday, Algeria will celebrate the 63rd anniversary of its independence and the restoration of national sovereignty. This significant milestone serves as a poignant reminder for successive generations of the heroic values that underpinned the War of Liberation, notably justice and equality. As the victorious new Algeria forges ahead in its development efforts, it remains firmly committed to preserving the social character of the state.

On this historic date, the Algerian people reflect on the sacrifices made by their ancestors during 132 years of colonial oppression. The glorious Revolution of Liberation embodied an unyielding popular will and a fervent desire for independence, achieved at the cost of great sacrifice by the martyrs and freedom fighters who fought valiantly for their homeland’s freedom.

After regaining its national sovereignty, Algeria has remained true to the principles of its Revolution, striving to establish a just and social rule of law that upholds the dignity of its citizens and safeguards their fundamental rights and national constants. Under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership, the Algerian state is focused on enhancing its social framework while reaffirming its commitment to the ideals of its revolutionary past. This approach is crucial in solidifying the development process and ensuring that Algeria thrives on multiple fronts.

During a previous address, President Tebboune emphasized Algeria’s adherence to its November reference, underlining the symbolic significance of independence. He stated that the nation is resolutely advancing, never losing sight of the sacrifices made during the November Revolution, which was hard-fought and costly.

Despite numerous challenges, Algeria has succeeded in restoring hope for a brighter future, reinforcing national cohesion, and rejuvenating its economy. The government has successfully supported vulnerable groups and gained the trust of the youth. Algeria has re-established its respectable position within regional and international spheres, asserting its voice prominently among nations.

Achieving social stability has been one of Algeria’s notable accomplishments and involves ongoing dialogue with citizens and their representatives. This interaction is facilitated through effective communication channels that exemplify the commitment President Tebboune has to personally engage with citizens during local and international visits. His periodic meetings with national media representatives aim to address crucial public interest topics and cultivate a culture of dialogue extending to all elected local assemblies.

Moreover, these initiatives have contributed to social stability, complemented by bold political decisions that further social welfare and improve residents’ quality of life. Since his election, President Tebboune has prioritized fulfilling his commitments to the population, emphasizing dignity and living standards enhancements—such as revising salaries, creating unemployment benefits, and supporting low-income individuals—all while combating speculation to protect purchasing power.

The government has also focused on sectors viewed as the backbone of society, approving legislation to raise salaries in vital areas like healthcare, education, and religious affairs. Employee pensions and allocations for retirees have been increased as a form of recognition for their contributions to the nation’s development.

Among the widely applauded initiatives were the enhancement of the Hajj allowance, increasing the allotted quota, thus providing more citizens the opportunity to fulfill this religious duty. Additionally, the value of student scholarships has been raised, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting youth education and aspirations.

It is essential to note that all measures and provisions aimed at citizens stem from well-considered decisions rather than mere populism. The President has instructed government officials, whose appointments took place last November, to honor their commitments to the populace and implement the entire presidential program by mobilizing all efforts to ensure citizen welfare and meet public needs.

In a recent Council of Ministers meeting, he urged his team to intensify their fieldwork rigorously and address the genuine concerns of citizens without succumbing to “media spectacle.” This proactive approach aims to build trust between the state and the people, reinforcing the government’s dedication to a socially oriented state where the contributions and voices of all citizens matter.

As Algeria commemorates this anniversary, it not only honors its past but also lights a path toward a prosperous future grounded in the values of equity and solidarity that formed the bedrock of its independence struggle. The road ahead is framed by a commitment to social justice, economic growth, and unwavering respect for the dignity and rights of every citizen.
