Duathlon Event in Oran: An Exciting Kickoff to the National Triathlon Grand Prix
Next Friday, the city of Bir-El-Djir in Oran will host the first stage of the national triathlon Grand Prix through a duathlon event. This highly anticipated sporting occasion is being organized by the Champions Lions Club of Oran in collaboration with the Algerian Triathlon Federation (FATRI) and the Youth and Sports Department of Oran.
The event aims to showcase the abilities of 250 athletes from various wilayas (provinces) across Algeria, bringing together passionate competitors and sports enthusiasts. Duathlon, a dynamic derivative of triathlon, challenges participants to engage in a series of three continuous athletic pursuits: running, cycling, and concluding with another running segment.
The competition will feature three categories based on age, each designed to accommodate different skill levels and stamina. The first category is tailored for children aged 9 to 10 years, including both girls and boys. Participants in this category will start with a 750-meter run, followed by a 2-kilometer cycling segment, and finish with a final 250-meter run.
Moving up the age ladder, the second category, which includes benjamins, minimes, and cadets, will challenge participants to complete a distance of 2.5 kilometers in running, 10 kilometers of cycling, and a concluding 2.5 kilometers run.
Finally, for juniors, elite competitors, masters, and veterans, the most demanding category requires an initial 5 kilometers of running, followed by a 20-kilometer cycling leg, culminating in an additional 2.5 kilometers of cross country running.
This event not only highlights the growing interest in triathlons and duathlons across Algeria but also emphasizes the importance of community and youth involvement in sports. The organizers expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with competitive spirit, showcasing the dedication and training of participants from all regions of the country.
