Summary of Participation in CIM CONNECT 2023

From May 4 to May 7, Karima Tafer, the Secretary of State for Mines, representing Algeria, is taking part in the CIM CONNECT convention and exhibition in Montreal, Canada. This event, organized by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, is one of the leading international conferences in the mining sector, drawing over 6,000 participants from around the globe, including industry operators, experts, researchers, policymakers, and representatives from pioneering tech firms.

The Algerian delegation includes officials from the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, along with representatives from key national agencies such as the National Mine Activities Agency (ANAM), the Geological Service Agency of Algeria (ASGA), and the public group Sonarem. Algeria’s participation aligns with its strategy to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation in mining, particularly with Canada, recognized as a leader in the field.

The participation also aims to promote Algeria’s substantial mining capabilities, attract quality investments, and bolster the transfer of knowledge and technology. During the convention, Tafer will engage in bilateral meetings with Canadian officials, international organizations, investors, and major mining and technology firms. These discussions will focus on exploring partnership opportunities, exchanging expertise, and advancing mining projects.

This initiative showcases Algeria’s commitment to developing a modern, sustainable, and competitive mining sector, rooted in innovation and resource governance, contributing positively to the country’s energy transition efforts and sustainable economic development.
