Summary of the Convention on Entrepreneurship Development in Algeria

On Wednesday, a framework agreement was signed in Algiers between the National Agency for Entrepreneurship Support and Development (NESDA) and the Agricultural Production Directorate under the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries. This initiative aims to create entrepreneurship development centers within agricultural training institutes and schools across Algeria.

The agreement was signed by NESDA’s Director General Bilal Achacha and Messaoud Ben Dridi, General Director of Agricultural Production, during an information session themed "Integrated Micro-Enterprises for Sustainable Agriculture." Key figures present at the event included Nassima Arhab, Secretary General of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Micro-Enterprises; Hamid Ben Saad, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture; and Rabah Fasih from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The primary goal of the convention is to establish entrepreneurship development centers in 21 institutions nationwide. These centers will foster an entrepreneurial spirit among young individuals, students, interns, and project leaders by equipping them with the necessary skills for starting and managing micro-enterprises while providing them with ongoing support throughout this process.

In her statement to the press, Arhab emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting the strategic value of the agricultural sector as a source of skilled labor capable of developing micro-enterprise projects. She also noted the state’s commitment to enhancing this vital sector, which offers numerous job opportunities.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture applauded this effort, calling it a lever for qualifying graduates from specialized training institutes in agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. He underscored the importance of on-ground technical training in developing their skills and boosting their contributions to significant projects in the sector.

Bilal Achacha reiterated that this agreement demonstrates NESDA’s openness to all economic sectors, particularly focusing on financing projects in strategic areas like agriculture and industry. He mentioned that the training program would last for 21 days.

During the event, a video showcasing micro-enterprise models was presented, alongside a description of NESDA’s services targeted at young project leaders.

Regarding the entrepreneurship development centers’ activities, Sandra Saibi, Deputy Director of Development and Promotion of Micro-Enterprises at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, announced that her department aims to establish 230 centers by the end of the year, with four centers in each province. Out of these, 107 will be in higher education institutions and 123 in professional training centers.

Saibi shared that the number of trained individuals currently reaches 13,317 in higher education centers and 1,161 in professional training facilities, supported by 2,021 trainers distributed across 615 higher education institutions, 458 professional training centers, 530 NESDA centers, and 418 guides.

In summary, the framework agreement represents a significant step in promoting entrepreneurship within the agricultural sector in Algeria, equipping the youth with vital skills and ensuring that they receive the necessary support to start their micro-enterprises, ultimately contributing to the national economy.
