Summary of Cooperation in Digital Training and Employment in Algeria

On Thursday, in Algiers, the Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Security, Fayçal Bentaleb, alongside Minister of Vocational Training and Education, Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, presided over the signing ceremony of a framework agreement aimed at enhancing digital cooperation between their sectors.

Objectives of the Agreement

In his speech, Minister Bentaleb highlighted that this agreement aligns with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to accelerate the digital transformation and adopt new approaches for skill training tailored to job market demands. The primary goal is to integrate public policies that better serve citizens in training and employment by leveraging digital interaction and expertise sharing. This framework aims to develop planning and forecasting tools to reinforce coordination between vocational training and employment, effectively addressing market needs and fostering a modern economy rooted in competencies and accurate data.

Bentaleb emphasized that this initiative marks a pivotal development in institutional and digital integration between the two sectors. The aim is to create an integrated system that facilitates reliable and instant data exchange between information systems, thereby directing training toward future professions. This approach is expected to enhance youth employability and align training offerings with national economic requirements.

Impact on Employment and Training

The Minister also pointed out the significance of digital partnership in enhancing the governance of unemployment benefits. To date, over 516,000 beneficiaries of unemployment aid have been directed toward short-term training programs, with more than 263,000 successfully completing their training and obtaining certificates for market insertion. He reiterated the importance of the Algerian classification of professions and jobs (NAME), which has been established as a reference tool for stakeholders in the job market.

Goals of the Vocational Training Sector

On the other hand, Minister El Mahdi Oualid articulated that the agreement aims to develop digital collaboration tools to improve management systems and interconnect databases while adapting vocational training to market requirements. As part of this initiative, both ministries plan to organize regional fairs on training and employment, involving all relevant stakeholders. This step represents a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to link training with employment and ensure the effectiveness of public policies to support youth and guide them into the workforce.

In summary, this collaboration illustrates Algeria’s commitment to modernizing its labor market through effective digital tools and integrated efforts in training and employment, aiming to meet the rapidly evolving needs of its economy.
