Summary of Algeria-Venezuela Bilateral Cooperation
On Thursday in Algiers, Algeria and Venezuela formalized their partnership by signing several memorandums of understanding and bilateral work programs across multiple sectors, including agriculture, environment, sustainable development, higher education, and housing.
This signing event concluded the 5th session of the Algero-Venezuelan Joint Governmental Commission for Economic, Commercial, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation. The session was co-chaired by Youcef Cherfa, Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, and Julio César Leon Heredia, Venezuela’s Minister of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands.
The signed agreements also extend to vocational training, women’s rights, biotechnology, and standardization initiatives. Additionally, they agreed on a protocol to amend an existing memorandum concerning plant protection and established cooperative frameworks for grants. Two distinct action plans were also ratified in the fields of culture and fisheries.
In his remarks during the signing ceremony, Minister Cherfa characterized these agreements as a significant milestone in the cooperative relationship between Algeria and Venezuela. He emphasized that the documents pave the way for the implementation of various projects, highlighting the successes achieved in the coalition’s 5th session.
Minister Leon Heredia expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, describing the signed agreements as a roadmap to strengthen the historic cooperation that defines the ties between the two nations.
Furthermore, a preparatory meeting among experts was held the day prior to the 5th session, where the urgent need to establish the Algero-Venezuelan Business Council was discussed. This council is envisioned as an effective platform to enhance commercial and economic collaboration between Algeria and Venezuela.
