Summary of Cooperation Agreements between Algeria and Mauritania

In Nouakchott, Mauritania, two significant memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed between Algeria and Mauritania focusing on commerce, specifically the protection of consumers and the modernization of the commercial register system. This milestone occurred on a Friday during an economic forum attended by various dignitaries, including Algeria’s Minister of Interior Commerce, Tayeb Zitouni, and Mauritania’s Minister of Commerce and Tourism, Zeinebou Ahmednah.

The first memorandum targets enhancing cooperation in consumer protection, combating fraud, and ensuring product quality control. The second memorandum aims to modernize and update the framework governing the commercial register in Mauritania.

The signing ceremony was also graced by Algeria’s ambassador to Mauritania, Amine Sid, and other officials from both countries involved in economic collaboration. The forum, which commenced on the same day, featured a series of partnership agreements across various sectors, including a contract for exporting Algerian pharmaceuticals between Saïdal Group and Mauritanian Chinguity Pharma. Other agreements were established between CNAN Algérie and Manu-Port, as well as between FADERCO and IBDAA for distributing personal hygiene products.

Minister Zitouni emphasized that the collaboration with Mauritania is not merely opportunistic but rather a strategic decision aligned with Algeria’s vision for economic reconstruction. He pointed out that the integration of industries, particularly in agro-food and pharmaceutical sectors, construction materials, renewable energy, and logistics, is crucial for mutual economic growth.

During his visit, Zitouni met with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, discussing vital issues related to further enhancing bilateral economic ties. President El Ghazouani expressed a desire to elevate the economic relationship to match the already strong political ties shared by the two nations. He called for intensified coordination between the commerce ministries of both countries to facilitate this goal.

The economic forum coincided with the 7th edition of the Algerian Products Fair held in Nouakchott from May 22 to 28, aimed at showcasing Algerian goods and fostering business relationships.

These agreements and ongoing discussions reflect a commitment from both nations to deepen their bilateral economic relations, emphasizing the importance of collaboration across various industries and sectors for mutual benefit and growth.
