Summary of the Cultural and Artistic Training Assessment Day in Algeria

On Tuesday, the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts convened a study day in Algiers designed for artistic training institutions under its jurisdiction. This event aimed to evaluate the performance of these establishments and explore future directions amidst the challenges they face both nationally and regionally.

Themed "Quality of Performance and Development Opportunities," the session provided a crucial opportunity to assess the current realities of arts and heritage training. Participants analyzed significant issues while sharing successful experiences and expertise in the field.

During the event, Zouhir Ballalou, the Minister of Culture and Arts, represented by Secretary General Sid Ali Sbaa, asserted that specialized training in arts and heritage is a fundamental component of "cultural economy" and a national concern linked to quality and excellence. This training is essential to building a human capital capable of innovating, producing, and competing on both national and international stages.

The minister emphasized that the goal of this training day was to explore the future of artistic training institutions to achieve higher levels of professionalism and performance quality, enabling them to meet present challenges. He called for establishing evaluation workshops focused on the training processes in arts and heritage, acknowledging past accomplishments while addressing existing gaps. This approach aims to cultivate a clear vision, grounded in practical and realistic proposals, to enhance the overall performance of training institutions.

Additionally, Selma Badra Meguellati, head of the digital project monitoring department at the High Commission for Digitization (HCN), delivered a presentation on employing digital tools within the arts and heritage sector. She discussed virtual restoration initiatives, program renewals, and the integration of digital subjects into study units.

In another presentation titled "Entrepreneurship in Arts and Heritage," Abdelhafid Sassi from the University of Tlemcen highlighted the significance of the creative economy and entrepreneurship in cultural sectors. He stressed the necessity for artistic institutions to adapt to ongoing digital transformations and emphasized the role of specialized training in this area, given the current job market changes. Sassi noted that the Algerian university system is experiencing a "strong dynamic" regarding entrepreneurial culture and called for the enhancement and support of cultural and creative industries.

The day featured three workshops that focused on vital areas: human resources, administrative and financial management, as well as digitization and entrepreneurship, all aimed at improving the pedagogical performance of artistic training establishments.

Overall, this study day not only served as a platform for reflection and evaluation of existing training methodologies but also underscored the need for innovative approaches in response to the evolving demands of the cultural landscape in Algeria. By fostering collaboration with various stakeholders in the training sector, the day underscored the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing the quality of arts education, nurturing talent, and ultimately promoting cultural production within the national economy. The integration of digital resources and principles of entrepreneurship were highlighted as essential elements in navigating the complexities of the modern cultural and artistic environment, emphasizing their importance in shaping an adaptable and competitive arts landscape in Algeria.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Culture and Arts’ initiative reflects a pivotal step toward revitalizing the artistic training sector and aligning it with contemporary challenges and opportunities.
