Summary of Algeria’s A’ National Football Team Training

On Wednesday, the Algerian A’ national football team held another training session at the National Technical Center in Sidi Moussa, ahead of their crucial matches against Gambia. These matches are part of the final round of qualifying for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN). This information was confirmed by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) via their official website.

The training, which commenced at 3:30 PM, saw the inclusion of Houcine Benayada, who stepped in for Imadeddine Azzi of USM Alger, as Azzi had to leave the squad due to an injury. During this critical training session, national coach Madjid Bougherra focused on tactical preparations.

The team is scheduled to fly to Banjul, the Gambian capital, on Thursday afternoon at 2 PM, traveling on a special flight. On Sunday, Bougherra had announced a list of 26 players nominated for this important stage.

The first leg of the tie against Gambia is set for Saturday, May 3, at Independence Stadium in Bakau at 4 PM local time in Algeria. The return match will be played on Friday, May 9, at the 19 May 1956 Stadium in Annaba at 7 PM.

If the team successfully qualifies, they will be placed in Group C of the final phase alongside Uganda, Niger, Guinea, and the other qualifier from the second playoff (either South Africa or Malawi). A total of 19 countries will participate in the upcoming CHAN edition. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2024 CHAN, citing delays in preparations necessary to host the tournament successfully.

The previous CHAN edition took place in Algeria in 2023, culminating on February 4 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, where Senegal claimed victory over Algeria via penalties after a goalless draw.
