During his participation in the 3rd Global Disability Summit held in Berlin on April 2-3, 2025, Algerian Health Minister Abdelhak Saihi met with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Their discussions centered around enhancing health cooperation, developing systems of healthcare, and implementing decisions relevant to health development.

The two officials reviewed Algeria’s accomplishments in strengthening health systems and explored mechanisms to improve healthcare services. They also emphasized the need for exchanging expertise and successful experiences in public health, all while addressing the challenges that global health systems currently face. The dialogue underscored the necessity for international cooperation and coordination among countries to tackle various health issues more effectively.

Minister Saihi highlighted Algeria’s commitment to supporting African health systems through initiatives aimed at assisting neighboring countries, especially in combating diseases. He specifically noted the importance of technical support from Algeria’s International Vaccination Center and its efforts in addressing tropical diseases.

Dr. Tedros praised Algeria’s contributions to health initiatives in Africa, particularly its role in establishing the International Vaccination Center, which he referred to as one of the most significant centers for combating epidemics in the region.

The meeting concluded with an agreement on the importance of continued collaboration between Algeria and the WHO. They aimed to develop joint projects and programs intended to enhance healthcare systems’ performance. Additionally, they underscored the need for sharing expertise in prevention and treatment to uphold public health and achieve mutual goals in this critical area.

This meeting reflects Algeria’s proactive stance in health cooperation on the continental and international stages, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaborative efforts to address global health challenges.
