Summary of the Education Minister’s Conference on Exam Preparation in Algeria

During a recent national conference held via videoconference, Algeria’s Minister of National Education, Mohammed Seghir Sadaoui, emphasized the critical importance of adhering strictly to the academic calendar regarding assignments and quarterly examinations. This message was aimed at all educational institutions, both public and private, as the country approaches the third trimester examinations.

The conference, which took place on Thursday, focused on evaluating the readiness of educational authorities for national school exams. Minister Sadaoui reiterated that all institutions must comply with directives from the Ministry, as well as scheduled timelines for various educational activities, including assignments and exams.

To enhance oversight, the Minister urged educational directors to strengthen monitoring within schools and implement necessary measures to ensure adherence to the Ministry’s guidelines. He stressed the importance of establishing systems for thorough checks on evaluation materials to maintain integrity in student assessments.

Additionally, Sadaoui addressed preparations for the upcoming Brevet de l’Enseignement Moyen (BEM) and baccalaureate exams, highlighting the need to provide suitable conditions for candidates. This includes ensuring air conditioning in examination centers located in regions experiencing high temperatures during this time of year. The Minister also flagged the importance of accommodating candidates with disabilities to ensure an inclusive environment throughout the exam period.

In a concurrent initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness, Sadaoui discussed a campaign encouraging students to maintain cleanliness in school settings. In partnership with the National Observatory of Civil Society (ONSC) and the Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life, schools are being advised to establish designated collection rooms for discarded notebooks, facilitating their recycling through a public recycling facility, as per an established agreement.

Furthermore, Sadaoui announced the upcoming elections for the National Commission for Social Works in the education sector, scheduled for May 24 and 25, after completing earlier phases related to the elections of regional commissions.

The Minister also inquired about the status of schools affected by recent severe weather conditions and called for daily monitoring of the overall condition of educational facilities across various regions, with particular emphasis on national exam centers.

In summary, Minister Sadaoui’s conference outlined strategic directives for upholding educational standards, environmental responsibility, and ensuring a well-structured approach to the upcoming examination periods in Algeria.
