Summary of the First African School Games Announcement

The African School Games, set for this summer in Algeria, will bring together mission leaders on May 19-20 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Béni Hamdine, Algiers. This gathering aims to discuss the significance, expectations, and future of this crucial event, as reported by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA).

The focus of this meeting will involve examining the strategic impact of the Games on the organization of sports in Africa and the promotion of Olympic values across the continent. The Games themselves are scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 5, 2025, in cities including Sétif, Constantine, Skikda, and Annaba, under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

This event promises to be pivotal for African sports. It will help shape major strategies for developing Olympic sports in Africa and aims to identify young talents, elite coaches, and technicians while fostering values of camaraderie.

Competitions will be open to young athletes aged 14 to 17 from various African nations, engaging in 24 diverse disciplines, including athletics, swimming, football, judo, taekwondo, skateboarding, beach volleyball, and 3×3 basketball.

The African School Games align with a broader initiative to support young athletes as they prepare for significant upcoming competitions, such as the African Youth Games (AYG 2025) scheduled for December in Luanda, Angola, the Youth Olympic Games (YOG 2026) in Dakar, Senegal, and the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028.
