On the second day of Aïd El-Adha, merchants of food products in western Algeria remained committed to serving the public, as observed by APS journalists. In Oran, the local commerce and export promotion department conducted a field observation and confirmed full adherence to the service plan across various areas. Shops were opened to meet residents’ basic needs, though some fruit and vegetable vendors in major markets like "El Hamri" and "Aïn El Beïda" remained closed.
Food Supply Assurance
Many bakers and food merchants were actively engaged to ensure a steady supply of bread and essential products in several neighborhoods of Oran. Residents expressed contentment with the accessibility of bakeries in areas such as Aïn El Beïda in Es Senia, "El Yasmine" in Bir El Djir, and "Ibn Rochd" (HLM). Additionally, grocery stores, cafés, and butchers continued their services.
Operation in essential services like gas stations and pharmacies was also noted, alongside public transport options such as trams, city buses, and taxis, enhancing mobility during the holiday.
Organizational Efforts
Naïma Tahari, communication officer at the commerce department, shared that a comprehensive service plan was established for Aïd El-Adha, mobilizing 1,451 merchants to guarantee the supply of basic food products and other services, including bakeries and pharmacies. A total of 62 inspection agents were deployed to ensure compliance with this plan.
Regional Highlights
In El Bayadh, 290 economic operators participated, with over 200 focused on food sales, including fruits and vegetables, and 38 bakeries. The local administration put 30 agents in place to monitor adherence to the service plan.
The Tissemsilt area saw the mobilization of over 580 economic operators, including flour and pasteurized milk production units, bakeries, and various service providers. The commerce department deployed 19 teams and over 38 agents to oversee compliance.
In Mascara, 64 teams were employed to monitor commercial practices and quality controls. A significant involvement of 885 merchants was noted in the food sector, encompassing bakeries and general food outlets.
Overall, the coordinated efforts across western Algeria during Aïd El-Adha reflect a robust commitment to ensuring food availability and public service during this significant holiday.
