Presentation of the African School Games Logo and Mascot in Algeria

The logo and mascot for the inaugural African School Games, scheduled to be held this summer in four cities in northeastern Algeria, were unveiled in a special presentation in Algiers on Tuesday.

Amar Brahmia, president of the organizing committee, emphasized the exclusivity of the event, noting that the logo and mascot have not yet been officially sanctioned by the African National Olympic Committees Association (ACNOA). The logo showcases a small group of athletes raising their arms towards the sky, described as an abstract work of art inspired by Africa’s colors and crafted by a volunteer artist.

The mascot features a fennec, a small desert fox native to the Algerian Sahara. Historically, the fennec has also served as the mascot for Algeria’s national football team, earning it popularity among sports enthusiasts.

The African School Games will take place from July 26 to August 5, 2025, in the cities of Skikda, Annaba, Sétif, and Constantine. The event aims to involve young athletes aged 14 to 17 from across Africa, and it aspires to restructure the continent’s sports movement while promoting Olympic values.

Under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and organized in collaboration with the ACNOA and the International School Sports Federation (FISS), these games represent a strategic initiative to guide young athletes towards larger international competitions—including the African Youth Games in December 2025 in Luanda (Angola), the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 in Dakar (Senegal), and the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

The event will feature 25 disciplines, including athletics, swimming, judo, taekwondo, skateboarding, beach volleyball, 3×3 basketball, and football. Each of ACNOA’s seven zones will have the opportunity to qualify two national teams in team sports.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the African School Games aim to foster educational and civic values through sports, discover future talents across the continent, and strengthen sports cooperation among African nations. This event not only showcases Algeria’s dedication to developing school sports but also highlights its capacity to host significant international sporting events.
