Summary of the 7th Algerian Products Fair in Nouakchott, Mauritania

The 7th edition of the Algerian Products Fair is set to take place in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from May 22 to 28, anticipating around 200 participants this year. According to Samir Derradji, Acting Director General for Export Promotion at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, this year’s fair will feature a broader range of sectors, including startups and manufacturers of footwear and clothing.

A notable aspect of the fair is the participation of companies specializing in home and office furniture, as well as children’s clothing. The Wilaya of Ghardaïa has been particularly recognized for its contributions in this segment. The primary goal of the fair remains to promote Algerian products and showcase the production capabilities of local operators across various sectors.

Derradji emphasized the importance of enhancing commercial relations between Algeria and Mauritania, indicating that several measures have been implemented to facilitate this. He underscored Algeria’s interest in a preferential trade agreement with Mauritania, noting its strategic position as a gateway to West Africa, a region comprising over 500 million inhabitants. This alignment offers significant potential for increased collaboration.

In addition to the fair, a council of Algerian-Mauritanian businessmen will convene, highlighting the mutual interest in fostering business opportunities. The event will spotlight Algeria’s production capabilities in multiple sectors, including industry, pharmaceuticals, home appliances, renewable energy, public works, agribusiness, and agriculture.

Other areas also showcased at the fair will include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), agriculture and fishing, tourism, handicrafts, and the leather and textile industries, with opportunities for direct sales to visitors. This diversified focus aims to strengthen regional partnerships and expand the reach of Algerian products within the broader African market.
