Summary of the National A’ Team’s Preparatory Training for the CHAN 2025 Qualifiers

The Algerian national local team (A’) conducted its third training session on the main pitch at the 19 May 1956 Stadium in Annaba on Wednesday evening. This training is part of the team’s preparation for their upcoming match against the Gambian national team in May, which is crucial for the final round of qualifying for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The information was shared by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on its official website.

Prior to the training session, the technical staff, led by head coach Madjid Bougherra, held a meeting with the players in the conference room of the hotel, marking the first time the entire squad was present since the camp began. This included players who had previously trained individually during the first two sessions.

The training started with muscle-strengthening exercises and progressed to tactical work, which included a practice match. Goalkeepers Abderrahmane Medjadel, Tarek Bousder, and Zakaria Bouhalfaya participated in a specific training program under the guidance of goalkeeper coach Azzeddine Doukha. Notably, two players from USM Alger, Imadeddine Azzi and Mehdi Merghem, joined the group after receiving medical clearance.

The first leg of the qualifying match against Gambia is scheduled to take place between May 2 and May 4 in Banjul, followed by the return match in Algiers from May 9 to May 11. Should Algeria qualify, they would be placed in Group C for the final stage, alongside Uganda, Niger, Guinea, and another team that qualifies from a secondary playoff.

In total, 19 countries will compete in the upcoming CHAN tournament, which will be held from August 2 to August 30 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2024 edition of CHAN due to delays in preparations for the tournament.

Recalling the last CHAN edition held in Algeria in 2023, the Senegalese team emerged victorious after defeating Algeria in the final, which ended in a penalty shootout, following a goalless match.

Conclusion

The Algerian A’ team is gearing up for its vital CHAN 2025 qualifier against Gambia, working intensively in training to ensure preparedness. Under Coach Bougherra’s leadership, the team is focusing on both physical fitness and tactical capabilities, all while integrating players back into full practice. The eyes of the nation are set on ensuring a successful qualification and furthering their ambitions in the continent’s premier tournament for local football.
