participation d’environ 100 étudiants à la 2e édition du hackathon national
Hackathon National SHESEM2025: Promoting Sustainable Development Among Students
Around 100 students from 20 higher education institutions across Algeria, including universities, institutes, and higher schools, are participating in the second edition of the national hackathon titled SHESEM2025. This event, themed "Sustainable Development," is organized by the University of Oran 1 "Ahmed Benbella" and will take place over three days starting from Sunday.
The hackathon represents a significant scientific event that aims to provide students an avenue to showcase their innovative ideas and projects revolving around sustainable development. Participants hail from 17 different wilayas, and the event is designed to foster creativity and entrepreneurial spirit among the youth. According to M. Karim Bouamrane, the Vice-Rector of the University of Oran 1 responsible for external relations, the hackathon is a wonderful opportunity for young innovators to explore diverse aspects of sustainable development through their projects.
In this competition, students have been organized into 30 teams, each consisting of three participants, and supported by 20 supervisors. They will have a 24-hour window to work on a project, application, or innovative design based on a particular subject that will be revealed to them the following Monday. The results of the hackathon will be announced on Tuesday.
Students from various universities, including those from Algiers, Batna, Djelfa, Saida, Mostaganem, Boumerdes, El Tarf, and Sidi Bel Abbes, will commence their project development on the themed challenge starting at 8 AM on Monday. The participants belong to a mix of educational backgrounds, including those from the School of Artificial Intelligence, School of Mathematics, and faculties focused on natural sciences, life sciences, as well as specializations in computer science and artificial intelligence.
It is worth noting that the first edition of the hackathon was held last year, concentrating on the themes of "Health and Artificial Intelligence," and saw the participation of 75 students from 12 wilayas. The top three positions were secured by the National School of Artificial Intelligence in Algiers and the universities of Boumerdes and Bouira.
Overall, the SHESEM2025 hackathon is not only an opportunity for students to engage with important global issues but also a platform for them to demonstrate their problem-solving abilities and innovation in sustainable development.
