Ouadah présente l’expérience de l’Algérie en matière de transition numérique et d’accompagnement des entreprises
Algeria’s Digital Transition and Support for SMEs
During the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in Algiers, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, highlighted Algeria’s digital transition efforts and the government’s support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups. He stated that digitalization is central to national initiatives aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and socio-economic development.
Financial Support for SMEs and Startups
Ouadah emphasized that substantial financial resources have been allocated since 2020 to bolster Algeria’s digital economy, particularly through programs designed specifically for startups. These initiatives aim to provide support from the early stages of business development and are part of a strategic vision for empowering Algeria’s digital economy. This approach has resonated with a wide segment of the youth, fostering an entrepreneurial culture among them.
Importance of Digitalization
For the empowerment of SMEs and startups, the Minister stressed the urgent need to digitize the economy—focusing particularly on administrative processes and government institutions. He encouraged financial institutions to adopt products and solutions developed by startups, underscoring the need for collaboration between innovative startups and established financial sectors.
Furthermore, Nasser Haïdar, Director General of Al Salam Bank Algeria, supported the Minister’s views by reiterating that the national digitalization strategy reflects the government’s commitment to digital transformation. He pointed out that affordable digital infrastructure is essential for ensuring all regions, especially remote areas, can access services.
Focus on Technical Education and Training
Haïdar also highlighted the necessity of promoting technical education and youth training programs tailored to various age and social categories. This education is vital for ensuring that young people are equipped with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.
The IDB Annual Meetings
The first day of the IDB annual meetings in 2025, held under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, involved several closed-door sessions focusing on technical and organizational aspects, aiming to outline discussion priorities for the gatherings scheduled for May 19-22. This marks Algeria’s third time hosting these prominent assemblies since 1990 and 2001.
The four-day event is expected to conclude with the signing of various funding agreements facilitated by the IDB, reinforcing the significance of international cooperation in advancing Algeria’s economic initiatives.
Conclusion
Algeria’s commitment to digitalization and support for SMEs and startups signals a significant shift in the country’s economic landscape. By leveraging technology and innovation, the government aims to empower local businesses, ensuring their growth and integration into the broader global economy. This strategic approach not only fosters entrepreneurship among the youth but also positions Algeria as an emerging hub in the digital economy, backed by international financial collaborations through events like the IDB annual meetings.
