Summary of the 17th Open Doors Event on Military Sports in Algeria

On Thursday, General Djabou M’hamed Abdelhak, head of the Military Sports Service at the Algerian National People’s Army (ANP), inaugurated the 17th edition of the Open Doors on Military Sports at the Chahid Messaoud-Boudjeriou Center in Ben Aknoun, Algiers.

Objectives of the Event

In his opening remarks, General Djabou emphasized the ANP’s commitment to enhancing both the material and moral conditions of its national military teams, aiming to bolster their performances in international sports events and proudly represent Algeria. This annual gathering saw participation from high-ranking ANP officials, various national sports federation presidents, and Abderrahmane Hammad, president of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee. The event served to showcase the roles, missions, and achievements of military sports on both national and international levels.

Engagement with Athletes and Disciplines

Attendees had the opportunity to meet elite military athletes who have brought honor to Algeria and the ANP through their accomplishments in various sports. The event featured engaging demonstrations across multiple disciplines, including martial arts, equestrian events, motor sports, dog training, and combat sports, illustrating the high standards achieved by Algerian military sports.

Additionally, the event offered presentations in several other areas such as wrestling, boxing, judo, taekwondo, jiu-jitsu, and karate-do, reinforcing the diverse scope of military sports achievements.

Recent Accomplishments

Algerian military sports have garnered remarkable accolades across different international competitions. Notably, Sergeant contract Djamel Sedjati secured a bronze medal in the 800 meters at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Furthermore, the military teams achieved significant success at the 2023 Military World Wrestling Championship, bringing home four medals (two silver and two bronze), and at the 2024 Military Judo World Championship with four additional medals (one gold, one silver, and two bronze). The military boxing team also made a notable impact at the 2024 Arab Boxing Championship, winning a total of 12 gold medals and one silver.

This event highlighted the ANP’s dedication to fostering sports excellence as a means of national pride and international representation.
