Obituary of Mostefa Boudina
Mostefa Boudina, a prominent figure in Algeria’s struggle for independence, passed away at the age of 86. He was the president of the National Association of Former Death Row Inmates and a former member of the Algerian Senate. His funeral took place on Thursday afternoon at El Alia Cemetery in Algiers.
A Legacy of Resistance
The funeral was attended by several high-profile officials, including Azouz Nasri, the President of the Council of the Nation, Boualem Boualem, Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, alongside government members, state officials, family, friends, and comrades.
Boudina was born on April 18, 1939, in Texenna, Jijel. He joined the Algerian Revolution in 1956 as part of the Front de Libération Nationale (FLN) while in France, serving as a fidaï (a militant) within the FLN cells. His commitment to the revolutionary cause was evident from a young age.
In May 1959, Boudina was arrested and subjected to severe psychological and physical torture. Initially detained in Saint-Etienne, he was later transferred to Lyon, where he faced a military tribunal that sentenced him to death twice in 1960. Despite these hardships, his spirit remained unbroken.
Following the ceasefire announcement on March 19, 1962, Boudina was released on May 11 of the same year. He continued his dedication to his country by engaging actively in politics and trade unionism after Algeria gained independence. His contributions as a seasoned syndicalist, visionary politician, and accomplished statesman defined his post-independence career, showcasing his commitment and excellence in service to the nation.
