installation d’un groupe de travail entre le ministère et le CREA pour l’accompagnement des investisseurs
Summary of the Joint Working Group on Pharmaceutical Industry in Algeria
On Thursday in Algiers, a collaborative working group was established between the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA). This initiative aims to support economic operators and address barriers to their investments.
The group, inaugurated by Minister Ouacim Kouidri and CREA President Kamel Moula, comprises officials from the Ministry and business operators in the pharmaceutical sector. Monthly meetings will be held to discuss ways to facilitate support for businesses and eliminate investment obstacles. The focus will also be on proposing mechanisms that ensure optimal utilization of new projects in medical supplies and innovative drug production.
Minister Kouidri emphasized that this collaboration aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directive to revitalize the national economy. The ultimate goal is to meet domestic pharmaceutical needs, particularly regarding innovative medications, while planning for future exports.
Currently, of the 213 companies operating in the pharmaceutical sector, only 41 meet approximately 79% of local market demand. Kouidri encouraged economic operators to join the Ministry’s strategy aimed at developing the pharmaceutical industry, especially through the production of high-quality raw materials, given the promising market opportunities available.
Furthermore, Kouidri noted that developing this sector could generate new jobs and potentially lead to the establishment of around 5,000 startups, thereby reducing import costs.
Kamel Moula highlighted Algeria’s significant potential in the pharmaceutical industry, stating that the working group would strive for optimal utilization of resources. One of its goals will be to compile a list of imported medicines and supplies for local production, prioritizing the manufacture of raw materials. This approach positions Algeria as a future regional hub in the pharmaceutical field.
