Summary of Recent Appointments in the Algerian Ministry of Interior
On Thursday, M. Brahim Merad, the Algerian Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Territory Planning, announced the appointment of M. Mahmoud Djamaa as the new Secretary General (SG) and M. Anis Feth-Eddine El-Akrouf as the Chief of Staff of the ministry. This decision was communicated through an official statement from the ministry.
During the installation ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, Minister Merad emphasized that Djamaa’s appointment reflects the trust placed in him by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. It is based on his competence and experience, which are deemed crucial for monitoring sector-specific issues and driving progress in ongoing projects.
Merad highlighted the importance of focusing on public policy initiatives that directly affect citizens. He underscored key areas such as enhancing security coverage and protecting citizens and property against various threats. Furthermore, he pointed out the need to improve the effectiveness of emergency responses.
Another critical point raised by the Minister was the necessity of strengthening coordination efforts with local communities. This improvement aims at enhancing the living conditions of citizens and the quality of public services, in line with societal expectations and regional specificities.
In line with modern governance, Merad stressed the urgency of accelerating digital transformation within the ministry and advancing various sector projects at both central and local levels. He reiterated the importance of equitable local development across Algeria’s regions.
Additionally, Merad provided instructions to ensure optimal preparation for the upcoming summer season. This involves coordination with relevant ministries and necessary measures to facilitate the end-of-year school examinations, as well as preparations for the forthcoming social season.
The installation ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Director General of National Security, the Director General of Civil Protection, the Wilaya of Algiers, and other senior representatives from governmental departments and agencies under the ministry’s oversight.
This strategic reshuffling is expected to foster a responsive governance structure, promote community welfare, and enhance administrative efficiency across various levels of government.
