Launch of the 2nd Edition of the Alger Sports Festival
On Thursday in Algiers, Interior Minister Brahim Merad inaugurated the 2nd edition of the Alger Sports Festival. The event was attended by several key figures, including the Minister of Sports, Walid Sadi; the Minister of Youth and Head of the Higher Youth Council, Mustapha Hidaoui; the Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Nadjiba Djilali; and Algiers Governor Mohamed Abdenour Rabehi, alongside representatives from various organizations.
Coinciding with International Workers’ Day, the festival commenced with a symbolic race for workers that kicked off in front of the Algiers Wilaya.
The festival spans three days and encompasses over 100 sports activities. Its objective is to promote a culture of sports and recreation while enhancing the urban area’s attractiveness and sustainability. The organizers emphasized the festival’s role in supporting various societal groups, particularly the youth, by providing new opportunities for social integration and leisure activities within local communities.
During the launch speech, the Algiers governor highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting sports as a means of fostering social cohesion and rejuvenating public spaces. He noted that 14 locations have been designated for hosting events, including both forested and urban areas, as well as 14 swimming pools.
