Manifestation à Paris à l’appel de la gauche pour dénoncer le génocide en cours à Ghaza

Paris Demonstration for Palestinian Recognition and Against Gaza Genocide

Around a thousand people gathered in Paris to demand that France officially recognize the State of Palestine and to condemn what they described as an ongoing genocide in Gaza. The demonstration was organized by the French Communist Party (PCF) on a Monday evening, with prominent figures from the PCF, Socialist Party (PS), and Green Party (Les Verts) in attendance.

During the rally, the PCF’s national secretary, Fabien Roussel, voiced strong opposition to the actions of the Israeli government, declaring, "No to ethnic cleansing! Stop the illegal occupation of the West Bank! Stop the genocide in Gaza!" He criticized France’s absence from the list of 150 countries that have recognized Palestinian statehood, calling it a shameful neglect of history.

Roussel also invited those at the rally to participate in an upcoming initiative by the PCF and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) aimed at forming a significant European alliance for the recognition of Palestine, scheduled for June 4 at the PCF headquarters. He urged immediate actions including a ceasefire, suspension of the EU’s association agreement with Israel, and a boycott of products from the occupied territories, along with an end to arms supplies to Israel.

The event included testimonies like that of Communist MP Soumya Bourouaha, who recounted her observations at the Rafah border crossing, lamenting that "nothing has changed" since she visited a year ago. Meanwhile, Marine Tondelier, the national secretary of the Green Party, urged attendees not to become desensitized to the ongoing violence, emphasizing the existential crisis facing Gazans and the implications for humanity’s moral standing.

Tondelier also reiterated a longstanding Green Party demand for investigators from the International Criminal Court (ICC) to be allowed access to Gaza, arguing that their presence could mitigate feelings of impunity among Israeli soldiers for the actions being carried out.

Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the PS, highlighted France’s obligations under the genocide prevention convention. He asserted that the country’s role should not be limited to recognizing genocide but must focus on its prevention, stressing that "a genocide is underway in Gaza."

As the event concluded, calls for international accountability and immediate action resonated among participants, showcasing a unified front among leftist parties in advocating for Palestinian recognition and a halt to violence in Gaza.
