On May 28, 2025, the President of the Council of the Nation, M. Azouz Nasri, led a meeting of the council’s bureau to inaugurate its new composition and discuss upcoming legislative texts. This meeting followed the approval of the bureau’s list of vice-presidents for the year 2025, highlighting the council’s renewed structure.
M. Nasri emphasized the significance of a newly created parliamentary group, the Front El Moustakbal, and welcomed the bureau’s newly elected members, wishing them success in their future responsibilities. He stressed the importance of commencing the installation of permanent committee offices and a parliamentary watchdog immediately, in line with the established timeline.
In his address, Nasri acknowledged the contributions of outgoing vice presidents and other officials whose terms have ended, expressing gratitude for their dedication to the council’s mission.
He conveyed optimism that the council’s entities would work toward enhancing its stature and efficiency while adhering to the principles of responsible expression, transparency, and clarity.
Regarding the legislative agenda, the council decided to submit three specific texts to the legal and administrative affairs committee, along with human rights, local governance, and territorial planning. The texts include:
- A law regarding the code of criminal procedure.
- An organic law modifying the existing law pertaining to the jurisdiction and operation of conflict courts.
- Amendments to the law on the prevention and repression of drug-related offenses.
Additionally, a bill related to Wakfs (endowment properties) was assigned to the education and religious affairs committee, while amendments to the social insurance law were directed to the health and social affairs committee for their evaluation and reporting.
During the meeting, M. Nasri also expressed his appreciation for the former chief of staff, M. Aissa Bouragba, who was recently appointed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the Council of the Nation as a presidential appointee. He announced the appointment of Professor Makhlouf Sahel as the interim chief of staff.
