Alger: Promoting Vocational Training Through University Partnerships
Introduction
A technical event showcasing the offerings of vocational training was held at the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB) to commemorate the National Student Day, observed on June 19th. This initiative aims to guide students toward diverse career paths in vocational training, emphasizing the complementary nature of vocational education and higher education in addressing national market needs and contributing to national development.
Objectives of the Event
The two-day event serves as a platform to highlight the various professions available within the vocational training sector. The rector of USTHB, Djamel Eddine Akretche, noted that this inaugural gathering could assist students interested in entrepreneurship by directing them toward the myriad opportunities available in vocational training.
Abdelkader Touil, the Director of Vocational Training for the Algiers Wilaya, reinforced the importance of showcasing the potential of vocational training within an academic and research-focused environment. He emphasized that the ultimate aim is to achieve synergy between vocational training and higher education, thereby meeting the demands of the national job market and facilitating the country’s development.
Importance of Collaboration
Mohamed Lahbib Ben Boulaid, the president of the APW of Algiers, underscored the necessity of effective synergies between vocational training departments and higher education institutions. He stressed that forging these links is no longer a matter of choice but a requirement driven by current developmental challenges.
In line with this objective, a partnership agreement is set to be established between USTHB and the vocational training sector, outlining the framework and key areas of cooperation. This initiative is co-organized by the Algiers Wilaya People’s Assembly (APW), the Directorate of Vocational Training in Algiers, and USTHB.
Conclusion
The event at USTHB represents a significant step toward integrating vocational training with higher education to better equip students for the evolving job market. By fostering partnerships, the initiative aims to enhance educational effectiveness and contribute to the broader goals of national economic development.
Through this collaborative effort, both sectors can offer students a clearer pathway to successful careers, ultimately benefiting the economy and addressing workforce needs.
