l’Université des sciences et de la technologie « Mohamed Boudiaf » participe à une exposition internationale dédiée à l’architecte japonais Kenzo Tange
Summary of the University of Oran’s Participation in International Exhibition Honoring Kenzo Tange
The University of Science and Technology "Mohamed Boudiaf" in Oran will participate in an international exhibition in 2029 dedicated to renowned Japanese architect Kenzo Tange, organized by the Yokohama Art Museum in Japan.
Architectural Heritage
The university’s architecture department will represent the institution at this significant event, aimed at highlighting Tange’s global architectural legacy. Notably, Tange designed the university’s campus in the 1980s, emphasizing the importance of this collaboration. The exhibition serves a dual purpose: showcasing the architectural heritage of Tange and enhancing the intellectual, scientific, and cultural profile of the university.
In preparation for the exhibition, two representatives from the Yokohama Art Museum visited the university in early May to discuss collaboration and details regarding the event. The university’s buildings hold the status of national heritage, recognized for their unique architectural style by Algeria’s Ministry of Culture and Arts.
Symbol of Cooperation
The participation in this global exhibition also symbolizes the long-standing historical relationship between Algeria and Japan. Initiatives such as the "Sahara Solar Breeder" program for solar energy technology and the university’s role in the 4th Japan-North Africa University Summit in July 2024 in Tunisia further illustrate this connection.
Japan has acknowledged this enduring partnership by awarding the Order of the Rising Sun to two distinguished figures from the university: Professor Hassan Lazreg in 2014 and Professor Nasreddine Berrached in 2021.
Tribute to Kenzo Tange
Additionally, in April 2024, the university honored Kenzo Tange by naming its main amphitheater after him, acknowledging the lasting impact of his architectural vision.
This participation in the Yokohama exhibition not only celebrates architectural excellence but also reinforces the ties between Algeria and Japan, promising further collaborative projects in the future.
