Summary of Health Initiatives in Algeria

On Thursday in Oran, Health Minister Abdelhak Saihi emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing specialized health centers nationwide to enhance healthcare accessibility and quality for citizens. During his visit to the new emergency service at the pediatric hospital "Abdelkader Boukhroufa," he noted that these specialized facilities will significantly improve care for children with heart conditions, aligning with national policies aimed at bringing healthcare closer to the populace.

The minister highlighted the ongoing efforts to set up specialized health poles across Algeria, which would enable optimal patient care and reduce the need for travel to distant regions for treatment. He pointed out the expertise available within local hospitals, which will play a key role in the establishment of these new centers.

Saihi mentioned the establishment of a dedicated hospital for child cardiac care in Mâalma, Algiers, equipped with 120 beds. Plans are underway to expand this initiative to include additional centers in Oran, Constantine, and Annaba. Under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership, the state has spared no effort in developing specialized medical centers. Previously, severe burn cases were often referred abroad; however, with the introduction of specialized burn units in Zeralda, Oran, and in eastern and southern Algeria, even the most complex cases can now be managed locally.

Additionally, during his visit, the minister inaugurated several healthcare facilities, including the "Dr Mahmoudi Mohamed" hospital for medical-surgical emergencies in Oued Tlelat, the "Aïssa Benali" hospital with 60 beds in El Kerma, the pediatric emergency service at "Dr Abdelkader Boukhroufa" (120 beds), the "Dr Mohamed Balaska" hospital (240 beds) in Sidi Chahmi, and the private medical clinic "El Djazaïr" in Bir El Djir.

These initiatives reflect a broader strategy to enhance healthcare capabilities in Algeria, ensuring that citizens receive necessary medical attention locally and significantly improving the overall health outcomes within the community. With robust investments in infrastructure and specialized services, the government aims to transform the healthcare landscape, making advanced medical care more accessible and effective for all Algerians.
