Summary of the Algeria National Football Team’s Preparation for World Cup Qualifiers

The Algerian national football team arrived in Gaborone, Botswana on Tuesday in preparation for their upcoming match against the Botswana team, known as the "Zebras." This match, scheduled for Friday, March 21, at 14:00 Algerian time, is part of the fifth round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, specifically within Group G.

According to the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), head coach Vladimir Petkovic has organized multiple training sessions while the team is in Gaborone before they travel to Francistown, located 400 kilometers northeast of the capital. There, they will conduct their sole training on the pitch of the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium, where the match will take place. Following the match, the delegation is expected to return directly to Algeria, where they will head to the Technical Preparation Center in Sidi Moussa to prepare for their next game against Mozambique on March 25 at 22:00 at the Hocine Ait-Ahmed Stadium in Tizi-Ouzou.

Before departing for Botswana, the team, captained by Riyad Mahrez, held their last training session on Monday at the national training center in Sidi Moussa. As of the end of the fourth round of qualifiers, which took place in June 2024, Algeria shares the top of the group with Mozambique, each team holding 9 points. Both teams lead by three points over Botswana, Guinea, and Uganda, who all have 6 points. Somalia is at the bottom of the group with no points.

The national team’s strategy is critical as they aim to secure their place in the World Cup. With both Algeria and Mozambique performing strongly, the upcoming matches will be crucial in determining the standings within Group G, and the players are focused on maintaining their leading position as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
