Summary of the Role of Media in Supporting Start-ups in Algeria

On Thursday in Sétif, the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, emphasized the crucial role of media in supporting start-ups, enabling them to establish a significant presence within Algeria’s economic landscape. At the opening of a study day titled "Economic Enterprise: Incubators of Start-ups; National Television as a Space for Interaction and Communication," Minister Meziane highlighted the public media’s mission, particularly the national television, conveying their commitment to public service and alignment with the state’s strategic choices.

Meziane described national television as an effective tool in promoting start-ups, as it shines a spotlight on innovative initiatives and cultivates a culture of innovation through tailored content. He underscored the importance of creating, promoting, and supporting start-ups, especially those led by young entrepreneurs. This initiative is seen as a national project of great importance, receiving significant attention from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune as a key aspect of the nation’s future and a determined vision toward youth empowerment.

Highlighting the media’s fundamental role in national efforts, Meziane pointed out that the current historical phase in Algeria necessitates an active media model. This aligns with the objectives of enhancing the growth and visibility of start-ups both domestically and internationally.

Noureddine Ouadah, the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Micro-Enterprises, remarked that the start-up and innovation environment is now entering a phase of sustainability and recognition, which increases the media’s responsibility in promoting entrepreneurship. He noted that productive enterprises are essential in diversifying the national economy and reducing dependency on hydrocarbons. In this context, innovation and start-ups have transitioned from options to crucial necessities for developing productive businesses and driving national progress.

Mohamed Baghali, the Director-General of Algerian Television, excelled the "qualitative leap" the national television has made in endorsing civic values. He stressed that economic operators are not merely advertisers but partners sharing mutual concerns and aspirations.

The event, organized by the public television enterprise, featured a presentation by Professor Chawki Bouregba from Sétif 1 University on creating a favorable environment for start-ups’ success and the essential role of companies in supporting these ventures. A discussion followed, allowing economic operators to voice their concerns and experiences.

In summary, the commitment of Algerian media, especially national television, plays a pivotal role in nurturing start-ups. By acting as a partner rather than just a platform for advertisement, the media aids in fostering an ecosystem where innovation and entrepreneurship can flourish, aligning with national economic objectives and addressing the challenges that young entrepreneurs face.
