Summary of the National Local Players Team Training and Upcoming Matches

The Algerian national team consisting of local players (A’) has successfully completed its first training camp in Annaba as part of their preparation for an upcoming qualifying match against The Gambia in May. This match is significant as it pertains to the final round of qualifiers for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025, as confirmed by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on their official website.

The last training session took place on Saturday evening at the 19 May 1956 Stadium, starting with a 15-minute warm-up. This was followed by a practice match split into two 30-minute halves, allowing the coaching staff to assess the players’ physical condition and the effectiveness of the preparation conducted during the camp.

Following the completion of the training, the players were set to leave Annaba on Sunday, one day earlier than originally planned, to return to their respective clubs. A second training camp is scheduled for April to further refine the team’s preparation for the second round of the CHAN qualifiers, according to the FAF.

The first leg of the tie against The Gambia is slated to take place between May 2 and May 4 in Banjul, with the return match scheduled for May 9 to May 11 in Algiers. Should Algeria qualify for the tournament, they will enter Group C alongside Uganda, Niger, Guinea, and another team to be determined from the second qualifying round.

The upcoming edition of CHAN will feature a total of 19 countries and is set to occur from August 2 to August 30 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided to postpone the 2024 edition of the tournament due to delays in the preparations necessary for its successful hosting.

It is noteworthy that the last CHAN edition, held in Algeria in 2023, concluded with Senegal defeating Algeria in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a goalless draw, in the final on February 4 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki, Algiers.

In summary, the preparations for Algeria’s local players team are on track as they look to bolster their chances in the crucial upcoming matches against The Gambia. The team is eagerly anticipating the next stage of their campaign while using their training sessions to optimize performance in hopes of qualifying for the CHAN 2025 tournament.
