Solidarity with Palestine: Algeria’s Continued Support Amid Challenges

On Friday, during a solidarity sit-in organized by the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) in Algiers, party president Abdelaâli Hassani Cherif reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Algerian people to support the Palestinian cause. Emphasizing that Algeria has consistently strived to back the Palestinian people through various diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, Cherif stated, “As Algerians, we will never retreat from providing support to the Palestinian cause by any possible means."

The rally took place amid heightened aggression against Palestinians, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan. Cherif called upon all Algerian political parties and civil society organizations to intensify their efforts to offer aid to Palestinian children who are suffering from the ongoing violence and oppression by Israeli forces.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of identifying new routes for delivering humanitarian assistance. He noted that the existing passageways should not be the only options for bringing aid, especially given the Israeli blockade that has intensified since Ramadan began. "We must seek alternative channels to deliver humanitarian aid and bolster Palestinian resistance against the brutal Israeli enemy," he asserted.

In support of this call, Youcef Hamdane, the Hamas representative in Algeria, urged citizens not to abandon Gaza during this critical period. He expressed confidence that while others may forsake Gaza, Algeria’s commitment is palpable, as demonstrated through widespread diplomatic, popular, and media engagement with the Palestinian cause.

Hamdane also acknowledged the multifaceted support that Algeria has extended to Palestine. He highlighted the enduring struggle of the Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation and affirmed its resolve to continue the fight until Palestinian lands are liberated and all holy sites of the Muslim nation are safeguarded.

He further condemned the violations perpetrated by Israel during the early stages of the ceasefire agreement, stating that the mere signing of this agreement indicated Israel’s acknowledgment of its failures against the resilient Palestinian people. Hamdane remarked on Israel’s avoidance of negotiations for the subsequent phase of the ceasefire and its tactics of political manipulation against the Palestinian population, especially utilizing humanitarian aid as leverage. He criticized the closure of all passageways that has obstructed humanitarian access during the sacred month of Ramadan, exacerbating the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The sit-in not only served as a platform to express solidarity but also highlighted the broader movement within Algeria to advocate for Palestinian rights. The collective sentiment reiterated a firm stance against oppression and a call for urgent humanitarian responses, revealing the significance of unity and persistent action among Algerians in support of Palestine.

In conclusion, the event reaffirmed Algeria’s enduring commitment to advocating for the Palestinian cause. Through vocal support from political leaders and grassroots initiatives, the rally made clear that Algerians stand resolute alongside Palestinians in their struggle for justice and liberation, especially during these challenging times. Algeria’s historical relationship with the Palestinian struggle remains a core aspect of its national identity, emphasizing a continued call for international attention and humanitarian action to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
