Summary of the Announcement on the "Edahabia Classic" Card and Postal Services Modernization in Guelma

On Thursday, in Guelma, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, unveiled significant updates regarding the magnetic card "Edahabia," which will now be known as "Edahabia Classic." This renaming is part of a broader strategy aimed at modernizing Algeria’s postal services.

One of the standout features of the Edahabia Classic is its extended validity period, now four years. This change effectively doubles the usage time for customers compared to the previous version of the card. As emphasized by Minister Zerrouki, the introduction of the new card is expected soon, allowing clients to facilitate their financial transactions with greater ease during this extended period of validity.

The card renaming aligns with Algeria’s national push towards electronic payment methods. Minister Zerrouki indicated that other exciting services will be launched shortly, including the "Platinum Card" and the "Black Card," which will each cater to specific categories of users with unique features.

In addition to the new card offerings, the minister drew attention to the importance of addressing the issues surrounding the ATM network across the country. He reported that approximately 2,500 ATMs are operational, with a remarkable functional rate of 97%. Furthermore, the average repair time for any malfunctioning machines has been significantly reduced to less than one day.

Zerrouki also underscored the urgency of accelerating the modernization of postal services within the Guelma region. Currently, there are 62 post offices servicing the 34 communes in Guelma, representing a postal service density of one office for every 9,500 residents. In addition to the existing infrastructure, there are currently 25 ATMs in operation, with plans to install 14 more in the near future.

The minister’s visit included a thorough inspection of the operational areas, including the transmission center and the new headquarters of the operational management of Algeria Telecom. As part of the visit, he also inaugurated a new ATM at the office in Bellili-Khemissi and inspected ongoing projects aimed at expanding fiber optic services.

Overall, these developments mark an important step towards enhancing the effectiveness of postal and financial services in Algeria and illustrate the government’s commitment to modernization and improved customer experience.
