On Monday, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman concluded a significant two-day state visit to Algeria. The Sultan was warmly received at Houari-Boumediene International Airport by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, marking the importance of this diplomatic engagement.

During the visit, the two nations signed multiple memorandums of understanding (MOUs) across various sectors, enhancing bilateral cooperation. The signing ceremony was jointly presided over by both leaders, signifying a commitment to strengthening ties.

Key agreements included:

  1. Mining and Resources: An MOU was established between Algeria’s National Office of Geological and Mining Research (ORGM), a subsidiary of Sonarem, and Oman’s Minerals Development Oman (MDO), under the auspices of Oman’s Investment Authority. This partnership aims to enhance collaboration in geological and mining initiatives.

  2. Energy: A preliminary agreement between Algeria’s Sonatrach and Oman’s Abraj Energy Services was set, focusing on collaborative energy projects, thus expanding their cooperation in the energy sector.

  3. Pharmaceutical Industry: Both countries agreed on an MOU to foster collaboration within the pharmaceutical industry, aiming to enhance healthcare solutions.

  4. Fisheries and Agriculture: Several executive programs focused on scientific and technical cooperation in fisheries, agricultural plant protection, and animal health were signed, addressing shared interests in these vital sectors.

  5. Labour and Education: An executive cooperation program in labor inspection covering 2025-2027 was established, along with an educational and scientific research cooperation program for 2026-2028. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to workforce development and educational enhancement.

  6. Judicial Cooperation: An MOU for judicial cooperation was also signed, further solidifying legal collaborations between Algeria and Oman.

  7. Joint Investment Fund: A framework for establishing a joint investment fund between Algeria’s Finance Ministry and Oman’s Investment Authority was agreed upon, aiming to bolster economic ties.

The visit included bilateral talks among high-ranking officials from both nations. Discussions were held between various ministers, covering topics from defense to agriculture and health, signifying comprehensive diplomatic engagement.

In a symbolic gesture, Sultan Haitham visited the Martyr’s Sanctuary, paying homage to the sacrifices made during Algeria’s Liberation Revolution. He laid a wreath at the memorial and later toured the National Museum of the Mujahid, receiving a detailed account of Algeria’s struggle for independence.

This visit fostered significant diplomatic momentum, underscoring the strategic partnerships being developed between Algeria and Oman across multiple industries, with a strong emphasis on economic cooperation and cultural exchange. It served as a stepping stone toward deeper ties that could benefit both nations in various domains.
