Anne Avarie Tierney, a 20-year-old American student, tragically died in Rome after ordering a vegan sandwich that contained cashews, to which she was severely allergic. Despite informing the restaurant staff of her allergy, there was a misunderstanding due to a language barrier. After consuming the sandwich, Anne suffered an anaphylactic shock. Although she typically carried an emergency cortisone kit, she had forgotten it that day. Her friends administered medications and performed CPR, but emergency responders were unable to revive her after 30 minutes of resuscitation attempts. An investigation is underway, including an autopsy and a health inspection of the restaurant.
