le Président de la République insiste sur le principe de solidarité interarabe pour réaliser le développement durable
Summary of President Tebboune’s Address on Sustainable Development in the Arab Region
During the 5th session of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Baghdad, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized the importance of solidarity among Arab countries to achieve sustainable development, particularly for those suffering from conflicts such as Palestine. He highlighted Algeria’s commitment to playing a significant role in enhancing inter-Arab cooperation aimed at economic integration.
President Tebboune stated that true security and prosperity for the Arab region can only be attained by aiding war-torn nations and addressing the injustices they face. He reiterated Algeria’s dedication to contributing to Arab economic integration, cautioning against letting such integration remain a distant dream. He noted that while there has been growth in intra-Arab trade, it accounts for only 8% of the total Arab countries’ trade with the world, indicating a stark disparity in investment flows among Arab nations.
To realize economic integration, he outlined several essential prerequisites, including the full implementation of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), the development of inter-Arab transportation networks, and the establishment of financial and banking mechanisms. He stressed that economic development goals are deeply intertwined with the national security needs of Arab nations and reflect a responsibility to harness the potential of Arab peoples for current and future generations.
Furthermore, President Tebboune expressed Algeria’s intent to be a pivotal player in various economic initiatives that promote closer ties and cooperation among Arab states. He referenced Algeria’s membership in GAFTA since 2009 and its contributions to the establishment of various funding and investment institutions in the Arab world. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of keeping pace with current global revolutions in technology, particularly in renewable energy, digitization, artificial intelligence, robotics, and nanotechnology.
Through these initiatives and commitments, President Tebboune aims to bolster the collective efforts of Arab nations toward a more integrated and prosperous Arab future, recognizing that the challenges faced by the region require a unified and cooperative approach.
