Summary of Hadji Departures from Batna
The first group of hadjis from Batna will depart for the Holy Places of Islam on May 15, as confirmed by the governor, Mohamed Benmalek. During a recent inspection at the airport, he highlighted that extensive preparations have been made to ensure the smooth execution of these trips. All concerns from the previous year, raised by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), have been addressed.
A significant allocation of over 100 million dinars has been directed towards rehabilitating the main runway, enabling large aircraft to land more effectively. Additionally, improvements have been made to the airport’s parking facilities, which can now accommodate up to 850 vehicles, including both cars and buses.
This year, Batna will see 11 flights to Saudi Arabia, transporting a total of 2,680 pilgrims from Batna and neighboring wilayas (districts), including Khenchela, Biskra, and Ouled Djellal. This marks an increase of two flights compared to the previous season, which saw 2,000 hadjis being transported over nine flights.
Furthermore, the governor mentioned that efforts are ongoing to organize flights for Umrah, which will supplement the 12 regular routes provided by Batna’s Mostefa Benboulaïd Airport, including four international ones.
In conclusion, the upcoming pilgrimage season is set to be well-organized, with increased capacity and improved facilities to ensure a positive experience for the pilgrims.
