Summary of the Meeting Between Algeria’s Health Minister and Oman’s Counterpart
On June 14-15, 2023, Algeria’s Health Minister, Abdelhak Saihi, met his Omani counterpart, Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, in Tunis, Tunisia, during the regional conference "One Health" for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). This meeting highlighted the strong historical and fraternal ties between Algeria and Oman, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors, particularly health.
The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the existing partnership, which reflects the leadership’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations. They discussed initiatives to promote the exchange of medical expertise, particularly in pediatric cardiac surgery. Plans for collaborative surgical interventions involving teams from both countries were also on the agenda.
Furthermore, they explored the potential establishment of a joint pharmaceutical production unit and a national medication center in Oman. This initiative, coordinated with Algeria’s Central Pharmacy of Hospitals (PCH), aims to enhance pharmaceutical production and distribution at both national and regional levels.
Lastly, the two parties agreed to continue their coordination and increase meetings to realize discussed projects, thereby fortifying the strategic partnership between Algeria and Oman in the healthcare arena.
