Summary of Justice Ministry Training Initiatives in Algeria

On Sunday, the Algerian Ministry of Justice initiated training sessions for judges and judicial trainees. This initiative is designed to enhance their skills and knowledge, particularly concerning recent legislative and regulatory developments.

Cybercrime Training

In a significant development, 25 judges will attend a specific training session on cybercrime. The goal is to deepen their understanding of this increasingly vital area of law. The training will cover essential updates in legislation and regulatory measures pertaining to cybercrime, enabling judges to handle cases more effectively.

Counter-Terrorism Collaboration

Under the European Union’s CEPOL framework, five judges will participate in a regional training session in Prague, Czech Republic, focusing on a "simulation trial related to counter-terrorism." This training aims to:

  • Enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Strengthen cooperation among judges and law enforcement on counter-terrorism strategies.
  • Provide insights into the legal frameworks required for prosecuting terrorism-related cases.
  • Foster professional networks among participants for ongoing collaboration.

Intellectual Property Law Training

In partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a group of 198 judicial trainees from the Superior School of Magistracy will engage in intensive courses and remote training focused on intellectual property. The sessions will be conducted by foreign experts, offering participants a global perspective on legal practices in this domain.

Combating Human Trafficking

In cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Egyptian Public Prosecutor’s Office, two judges will attend an expert meeting in Ain Sokhna, Egypt. This meeting will focus on updating the legislative guide for combating the illicit trafficking of migrants via land, sea, and air. The purpose is to include MENA regional experts in refining this legal framework to address the challenges related to human trafficking and to bolster international cooperation.

Forensic Medicine Training in Oran

In Oran, magistrates from western courts will take part in a workshop on forensic medicine. The session will cover vital topics including:

  • Medical expertise in criminal cases.
  • Evidence collection at crime scenes.
  • Procedures related to corpse examination.

This training will involve collaboration with representatives from several medical and law enforcement entities, such as the forensic medicine service and the criminalistics department of Oran University.

Conclusion

These comprehensive training initiatives reflect the Algerian Ministry of Justice’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its judiciary. By focusing on current legal challenges such as cybercrime, counter-terrorism, intellectual property, human trafficking, and forensic medicine, the ministry aims to equip judges with the necessary skills needed to navigate an evolving legal landscape effectively.
