Summary of the National Cancer Prevention and Combat Conference in Algeria
The National Conference on Cancer Prevention and Combat, organized by the National Commission for Cancer Prevention and Combat (CNPLCC), commenced on Saturday at the "Abdelatif-Rahal" International Conference Center in Algiers. This significant event was held under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and saw attendance from government officials and representatives of national bodies, alongside over 600 experts and stakeholders engaged in cancer prevention and treatment.
The two-day conference aims to assess the National Cancer Control Plan (PNLC) while also reviewing the current state of cancer management. Additionally, participants will discuss recommendations and showcase international experiences in cancer prevention and treatment strategies.
During the opening speech, Pr. Adda Bounedjar, President of the CNPLCC, outlined the primary objective of the conference: to develop a national strategy for cancer prevention and treatment for the period spanning from 2025 to 2035. Bounedjar emphasized that a systematic approach is essential for combating cancer effectively.
The conference is structured around seven workshops, each tackling critical aspects of cancer management. The first workshop focuses on "Prevention," which includes discussions on the link between smoking and cancer, obesity, dietary factors, and vaccinations. The second workshop will address "Early Detection," highlighting its critical role in improving recovery rates.
The third workshop will delve into "Diagnosis," emphasizing the status of laboratories, biochemistry, and pathology. The fourth session will focus on "Patient Pathways," aiming to enhance patient management from diagnosis to treatment. Subsequent workshops will cover themes related to "Medications and Medical Devices," "Funding and Governance," and "Training and Scientific Research."
This comprehensive conference not only seeks to evaluate current practices but also aims to establish a cohesive and informed strategy for future cancer care in Algeria, ensuring that the nation is well-equipped to tackle the challenges posed by this serious health issue.
