Cultural Caravan from Timimoun to Akbou: A Celebration of National Cohesion

A cultural caravan from the Wilaya of Timimoun has set off towards Akbou in the Wilaya of Bejaia as part of an inter-communal twinning initiative, according to the local Assembly of the People’s Communes (APC) of Timimoun.

This initiative is organized under the auspices of the High Commission for Amazighity (HCA) and aims to strengthen national cohesion among the citizens while honoring the message of the Chouhada (martyrs). The president of the APC, Moulay Lakhdar Abdallah, emphasized the significance of this endeavor in fostering unity through cultural exchanges.

The cultural program kicked off on Wednesday evening, coinciding with the dual celebration of Independence Day and Youth Day. Attendees can look forward to a variety of cultural activities designed to showcase the rich heritage of Timimoun, known as the "Oasis Rouge."

Upon arriving in Akbou, the cultural delegation—which includes various cultural associations, artisans, and folkloric troupes like Ahellil—will animate the event across neighborhoods and districts. This effort aims to promote the Ahellil heritage, recognized as part of the universal cultural heritage, as highlighted by Mohamed Zaza, the director of Culture and Arts in Timimoun.

This event offers the people of Akbou a unique opportunity to appreciate artistic works from the participating groups. It also seeks to highlight the touristic attractions of the Gourara region and the invaluable Amazigh heritage, both material and immaterial, that Timimoun has to offer.

Additionally, these activities are part of a twinning agreement previously signed between the municipalities of Akbou and Timimoun during the Amazigh New Year celebration, Yennayer 2025, which took place in Timimoun.

This caravan represents not just a cultural exchange but also a platform for integration, allowing participants and local communities to engage and appreciate their shared heritage. Through these interactions, the caravan aims to cultivate a sense of identity and a collective memory that honors the past while looking toward a harmonious future.
