Lancement du premier atelier consultatif sur le projet d’élaboration de la nomenclature des métiers de l’environnement en Algérie

Summary of the Workshop on Environmental Jobs in Algeria

On Sunday in Algiers, Algeria, a pivotal advisory workshop was inaugurated aimed at developing a comprehensive nomenclature of environmental jobs. The initiative seeks to structure and regulate these professions while enhancing skill sets and training, aligning them more closely with market demands.

Key Players Involved
The workshop was officially launched by the Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Nadjiba Djilali, with key figures in attendance, including Noureddine Ouadah, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-entreprises, and Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, Minister of Vocational Training and Professional Education.

Objectives of the Workshop
The primary goal of the workshop is to create a national reference framework that will classify existing, emerging, and evolving environmental jobs into specific domains and qualification levels. This framework aims to:

  • Define Required Competencies: Establish the technical and legal competencies for each job.
  • Adapt Training Programs: Tailor vocational and academic training to actual market needs.
  • Facilitate Job Integration: Aid young individuals and graduates in transitioning into the job market.
  • Guide Public Policy: Serve as a reference tool for decision-makers in shaping employment and educational policies.

Execution of the Project
The initiative will be executed by the National Center for Cleaner Production Technologies (CNTPP), collaborating with various government sectors, experts, and the National Conservatory for Environmental Training (CNFE).

In her address, Djilali emphasized that the nomenclature is more than just a bureaucratic exercise; it serves as a strategic vision to prioritize green jobs within national planning. The focus is on linking education to employment in emerging environmental sectors, facilitating youth access to green jobs, and promoting an innovative circular economy rooted in knowledge and sustainability.

Support from the Government
This endeavor is part of the broader efforts by the state, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to diversify the economy, encourage investment, and unveil new opportunities for young talent in the green economy, knowledge-based sectors, and innovation. The initiative aims to foster the growth of startups and micro-enterprises within environmental fields.

Role of Startups
Ouadah highlighted the importance of these initiatives in showcasing the contributions of startups to the environmental sector. He noted the existence of numerous active micro-enterprises and startups that are developing specialized platforms and applications aimed at recycling and transformation.

Conclusion

This workshop marks a significant step toward formalizing and enhancing the landscape of environmental professions in Algeria. By creating a structured framework for job classification, defining competencies, and adapting training programs, the initiative aims to boost both employment opportunities and sustainability within the country’s environmental sector. Through collaborative efforts and government support, the project hopes to foster innovation and economic growth while addressing pressing environmental challenges.
